From phonological awareness to phonics
Give your child the best start to their reading journey without adding anything else to your to-do list.
Are you sure your child is ready to learn phonics?
The most important skills are taught before letter sounds are even introduced. In Phase 1 phonics, children learn phonological and phonemic awareness. At this point, your child learns critical reading skills, such as blending and segmenting. The following phonics phases are where they apply and consolidate these skills.
Research shows that 80% of children who struggle to read have a weakness in phonological awareness.

The Phonics at Home Curriculum
Support your child with phonics lessons at home.
The Phonics at Home Curriculum was created by a former teacher and SENCo, and carefully designed to fit into the chaos and calm of everyday life, so learning never feels like one more thing on your to-do list.
"My little boy is engaged throughout the lessons thanks to the interactive movement games, songs for each sound, and writing opportunities. He even asked to do more lessons as soon as we finished the first one! I get to actually enjoy learning with him, instead of worrying if I'm doing it right."Â

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE CURRICULUM
Hi, I’m Del.
I’m a mum, phonics teacher, early reading specialist, lifelong book lover, and digital artist. I'm also the founder of The Little Reading Nest, where I help overwhelmed mums feel confident supporting early reading, writing, and phonics at home.
I work with busy mums who want to give their child the best start with literacy, but often feel stretched thin by daily life and unsure where to begin. Through simple, low-effort, high-impact tools, I make early learning feel manageable, even on the busiest days.
After more than a decade as an Early Years teacher, SENCo, and Early Literacy Specialist, I understand the pressure parents feel to create 'perfect' learning environments filled with sensory play and elaborate activities. While those activities have so much value in those crucial early years of development, they can feel out of reach on some days.
That’s why I focus on helping mums build strong early literacy foundations through everyday routines. So when there is time for bigger activities, it’s simply building on the learning that’s already happening.
Through The Little Reading Nest, I support families in creating confident, connected literacy habits that fit into real, busy life - because meaningful learning starts in the small moments you’re already sharing.
